i like to help people work on the hard problems
that they're good at
by solving the software problems
that i'm good at

people passionate about their work always motivate me,
especially when it's a problem i've never thought about before,
so i love it when i can use my skills to fill in gaps
and help them make progress where they couldn't before

most recently i've been helping fight climate change
by managing multiple engineering teams at a clean tech startup
that helps people get utility usage data so they can do cool projects
that are challenging or impossible to do otherwise

i've also worked on a suite of ultrasound simulation
software that helps researchers design new imaging algorithms,
transducers, focusing algorithms, and more
letting them do their work without worrying about writing code too

it feels great to contribute to projects that just exist
to make the world a better place and that
align with my principles so i'm a frequent contributer
to projects like wikipedia, openstreetmap, the tor network,
and various open source software projects.
